MyBeST winners sign with TNB as Malaysia's first grid-storage tender moves to build
ERS Energy secures two of the four shortlisted battery projects and signs offtake agreements with Tenaga Nasional, pushing the 1.6 GWh programme into construction.
Malaysia's first competitive grid scale battery tender, MyBeST, has moved from selection to construction. ERS Energy has secured two of the four shortlisted projects, each rated 100 MW / 400 MWh, and signed offtake agreements with Tenaga Nasional (TNB) that let the work begin.
One of ERS Energy's two projects was awarded directly, and the second through a consortium with Gamuda Berhad. Together the four MyBeST projects add up to 400 MW and 1,600 MWh across Peninsular Malaysia, all targeted for commissioning in 2027.
The signing of agreements with TNB as the offtaker is the milestone that turns a shortlist into real assets, giving the winners the revenue certainty they need to finance and build. The Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) ran the tender, which drew far more interest than the capacity on offer.
MyBeST reaching execution matters because it proves the model works end to end, from open tender to signed contracts to construction. It anchors a pipeline of standalone grid storage in Malaysia and sets the template the country is now repeating at larger scale.
